Seniors Daniel Carr, Nick Kor and Miles Trump have been named as the finalists for the 2011 Tommie Award. Students, faculty and staff voted on the three finalists from 21 nominees earlier this week.
The Tommie Award, formerly known as the “Mr. Tommy Award,” started 80 years ago in 1931. The honor recognizes seniors who are nominated by the St. Thomas community for showing leadership, service and scholarship at the university.
Nick Kor said being named as a finalist “feels kind of exciting. There were many amazing candidates to vote for, and it is definitely an honor to be one of the finalists.”
Miles Trump said he was also excited and surprised.
“I’m grateful, I appreciate everyone’s vote,” he said. “I was surprised because the people on there were people I looked up to.”
Daniel Carr could not be reached for comment before publication.
The final vote will take place in mid-February. The Tommie Award winner will get the opportunity to emcee the Spirit of St. Thomas celebration and speak at graduation.
