Riley Miller’s last second layup sealed the win and MIAC regular season championship for No. 3-ranked St. Thomas, leading men’s basketball to a 74-72 win over St. Mary’s University at Schoenecker Arena on Saturday.

With just 10 minutes left in the game, the Tommies were down by 19 to the Cardinals, a team they haven’t lost to since January 1988.

St. Thomas shares the regular season MIAC championship with St. John’s University. A coin flip decided who received the No. 1 seed of the tournament between the Tommies and the Johnnies. St. Thomas is seeded No. 2 in the MIAC tournament after losing the coin flip.

Sophomore post Brynne Rolland led the St. Thomas women’s basketball team with 21 points to defeat St. Mary’s 75-59 Saturday at Schoenecker Arena for their third win in a row, concluding the regular season.

The Tommies’ win marks coach Ruth Sinn’s 11th consecutive 20-win season.

St. Thomas finished third in the MIAC regular season standings behind Augsburg and Bethel. The Tommies host St. Kate’s in the quarterfinals of the MIAC tournament 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schoenecker Arena.

Sophomore goalie Camden Burggrabe saved 25 out of 29 shots, helping Tommie men’s hockey defeat Augsburg 5-4 in the final regular season game at Saint Thomas Ice Arena Saturday.

The Tommies end the regular season with a 12-10-3 overall record and 9-6-1 MIAC record, clinching a MIAC playoff spot. The Tommies have qualified for the MIAC playoffs every year under coach Jeff Boeser, but he remains humble about it.

The Tommies play Gustavus back at home Thursday for a spot to play at St. John’s Saturday. The time is yet to be determined.
