The University of Michigan football team defeated the University of Minnesota 49-24 Saturday.

This was the opening weekend of the 2020 Big Ten football season, beginning seven weeks late due to coronavirus precautions.

This win was led by Michigan quarterback Joe Milton, who finished with two touchdowns and 277 total yards.

Michigan has not lost at Minnesota since 1977 and Minnesota hasn’t hoisted the Little Brown Jug rivalry trophy since 2014.

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 in game 5 of the World Series to take a 3-2 series lead Sunday.

Pitcher Clayton Kershaw captured his second win in six days as he escaped a 4th inning scare, cutting down Manuel Margot at the plate as he attempted a rare steal of home.

On Saturday, the Rays pulled off a stunning 9th inning comeback to beat the Dodgers 8-7 on a walk-off single by Brett Philips.

St. Thomas hockey announcer Brian Sweeney is a co-recipient of the 2019-20 Bob Sheppard High School Announcer of the year award.

The award, given by the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers is named after Bob Sheppard, who worked 57 years with the New York Yankees organization.

To receive this award, candidates must be nominated by their peers and later, if the nomination is accepted, submit a recorded demo of their best game.
