Student suffers knife wound in Flynn Hall

A student was accidentally cut by a knife  while practicing self-defense maneuvers with another individual in Flynn Hall on Sunday night, according to a university statement.

St. Thomas Public Safety and St. Paul Police responded to the call. The student who was cut was transported to a local hospital and treated for the injury.

“Two individuals – including one St. Thomas student – reported they were practicing self-defense maneuvers involving a knife,” the statement said. “During the incident, the sheath came off and the student was cut in the leg.”

Students reported seeing a firetruck, an ambulance and police vehicles around 9 p.m. outside of the residence hall.

“Police have ruled the incident an accident,” the statement said.
