International efforts to defuse the standoff over Ukraine intensified today, with French President Emmanuel Macron holding talks in Moscow and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Washington to coordinate policies.

The buildup of an estimated 100,000 Russian troops near Ukraine has fueled western worries of a possible offensive. White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned Sunday that Russia could invade Ukraine “any day.”

Russia has denied any plans to attack Ukraine but issued demands including that the U.S. and its allies bar Ukraine and other former Soviet nations from joining NATO. Washington and NATO reject those demands.

A caravan of about fifty vehicles drove through Minneapolis demanding justice in the death of Amir Locke, the 22-year old black man who was fatally shot by Minneapolis police during a no-knock search warrant.

Sunday’s caravan was organized by the Racial Justice Network and other police accountability groups.

Some in the caravan then gathered outside of what’s believed to be the home of Interim Police Chief Amelia Huffman and called for her resignation, according to a report by the Star Tribune.

The federal trial of three former Minneapolis police officers charged with violating George Floyd’s rights is expected to resume today, after it was abruptly suspended last week because one of the defendants tested positive for COVID-19. Charges stem from Floyd’s May 2020 killing at the hands of former officer Derek Chauvin.
