Minnesota Timberwolves players and staff participated in a player-led icebreaker game of slow-pitch softball Thursday on the St. Thomas baseball field.
Multiple St. Thomas students and staff watched and took photos from nearby as the team played the game to varying degrees of success, cheering each other on the whole time.
“D’Angelo Russell came up with the idea to get the guys together outside of basketball to have some fun and hang out, chemistry build,” Sara Perez, director of basketball communications for the Timberwolves, wrote in an exclusive email to TommieMedia.
Russell, one of the most notable current Timberwolves players, played 65 regular season games in 2021-22 and averaged just over 18 points per game.
Students and staff could not get closer than parking lot B between Flynn and Morrison halls as St. Thomas employees and public safety attempted to give the players and their families some space.
