The University of St. Thomas will be closed to most in-person activities on Thursday, Feb. 23, due to winter weather that has gripped the central part of the state.

In an email sent shortly before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Public Safety wrote that the campus will be closed with the exception of some campus operations and events.

The Anderson Student Center and the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Center will remain open. The View, Summit Marketplace and Corner Market will be open, but all other dining facilities will be closed.

The university’s libraries will be closed. The Center for Well-Being and Disability Resources will not be open for in-person activities, but students will have access virtually.

Athletic events, however, will be held as scheduled.

While campus is closed, the email did not cancel classes outright.

“Students with in-person classes should check their course syllabi and their St. Thomas email for instructions from their professors; classes may move online for the day. Previously scheduled online classes will meet as scheduled,” the email stated.

Any further cancellations or closures will be announced by 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 according to the email.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for St. Paul and the surrounding area, warning of snow accumulations up to 18 inches.

The city of St. Paul declared a snow emergency this morning around 10:30 a.m., urging residents to keep cars parked off city streets for plowing to start tonight at 9 p.m.
