The Israeli military said Wednesday that it has reopened its Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza after days of closure, but the U.N. said no humanitarian aid has yet entered, and there is no one to receive it on the Palestinian side after workers fled during Israel’s military incursion in the area.
The crossing was closed over the weekend after a Hamas rocket killed four Israeli soldiers. The Rafah crossing, which was closed when Israel seized it on Tuesday, is the other main terminal through which essential supplies enter into Gaza.
Police began to clear a pro-Palestinean protest at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. early Wednesday morning, with 33 arrests reported.
The arrests came hours after protesters marched to President Ellen Granberg’s home in order to protest the invasion of Rafah.
Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith were called to testify Wednesday afternoon at the Republican-led House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, but the hearing was canceled after the arrests.
Severe storms threatened the Midwest, including Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, while portions of Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri were also under a tornado watch late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornadoes destroyed property and knocked out power to thousands of people, but no injuries were reported.
