Meyer out, overhaul to Admissions imminent

Dan Meyer, former Vice President for Enrollment Management, has stepped down from his position at St. Thomas.

In an email sent by Provost Richard Plumb, Meyer is said to have “decided to step down from the role and will be leaving the university.” Meyer served in this role for the past three years. No other details were given about his departure.

The enrollment management vice president position has not yet been filled. “Al Cotrone…has agreed to serve as interim vice president,” Plumb said in his email, “until we can identify and hire a new (VP). That search has already begun.”

Meyer’s exit comes on the heels of a review and overhaul to the university’s financial aid system for incoming students. Meyer, Opus College of Business Associate Dean Al Cotrone and the Human Resources department “led the review with support from an outside consultant.”

During the course of last year, all non-academic departments at the university underwent internal assessments. Using these assessments, the Department of Enrollment Services restructured the financial aid system for incoming undergraduates.

“A new set of practices, procedures, and policies have been developed and are currently being mapped onto Salesforce, the university’s adopted software platform,” Plumb said in the email.

This new system will be fully implemented by Aug. 31 of this year and will be organized by the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, the Registrar and Budgets and Operations. No specifics about the new system were addressed.

In addition to Meyer stepping down, several positions in the current system have been identified for elimination and others have “changed more than 50%.” The positions will not be eliminated until Aug. 31 of this year, and it is not known if those affected by the cuts have been notified.

Those who have their positions cut and cannot find another job in the university will be eligible for an undisclosed severance package. Plumb said the university is committed to helping affected employees has encouraged other departments to consider affected employees to fill any vacancies.

During the transition, Kristen Hatfield will serve as Admissions Team Leader, Kris Roach will lead Financial Aid and Paul Simmons will remain in his role as University Registrar.

“(Hatfield, Roach and Simmons) will work closely with Al Cotrone over the next several months to ensure a smooth transition,” Plumb said in his email.

Plumb was not immediately available for comment.
