The Coalition of Multicultural Organizations spiced up the evening with Asian food, music and dance Monday at the Asian Culture Show held in the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.

The event kicked off the coalition’s “Livin’ in Color” week. Events will be held each night, except Wednesday, in an effort to promote awareness of the different cultures on campus. A play about acceptance and unity punctuated various music and dance performances during the show.

“It was amazing,” sophomore Emmaly Manchanthasouk said. “There was a lot of diversity in the room, in the atmosphere and in the performances as well.”

The show consisted of a dramatic reading by Fuabkuab Yang of “An Asian Am Anthem,” a “Coconut Dance,” an acoustic guitar and choral piece by St. Thomas students, a piano performance by Hoang Bui and a “K-Pop” dance performance.

“I absolutely enjoyed it. I absolutely think there should be more events like it. I think it was a really fun event,” freshman Sue Yang said.

Students from Macalester College and the University of Minnesota also performed during the show.

After the show, performers and attendees enjoyed a meal consisting of dishes from various Asian restaurants from the area.

Throughout the week, other events will include African drum and dance lessons at 7 p.m. Tuesday, cooking lessons at 7 p.m. Thursday and an “Ebony Mic Night” at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
