Moving out of O’Shaughnessy Hall
Athletic staff and Health and Human Performance faculty are moving out of O’Shaughnessy Hall to make way for construction of the Anderson Athletic Complex, which opens next August.
“People were asked to have their stuff packed up and ready to go when we returned on Jan. 4,” said Linda Halverson, scheduling manager.
Text messages raise $4 million for Haiti relief
Disaster struck Haiti as an estimated 50,000 people were killed from a 7.0 magnitude earthquake Tuesday.
Although no members of the St. Thomas community were in Haiti on Tuesday, an estimated 45,000 Americans were in the country at the time of the earthquake.
Can’t find the weight room? Look under the bleachers
The weight room and fitness facility is now open in the concessions area under the bleachers of O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
Cardio equipment and weight sets were moved from O’Shaughnessy Hall to the new site due to the construction of the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex.

“The whole pressure, the pulsating water is really relaxing compared to getting a normal massage,” said Junior Dan Wanous.
Heavy snow to blanket Twin Cities tonight
The National Weather Service expects heavy snow across southeastern Minnesota tonight.
The Twin Cities could see as much as 2 inches of snow by late Tuesday afternoon, according to the Weather Service. By Wednesday morning, 5 to 8 inches of snow could accumulate around Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Women’s bball loses to Concordia, first time this season
The St. Thomas women’s basketball team played its first home game of the season Wednesday at Gangelhoff Center against Concordia-Moorhead. And even though the Tommies returned four starters, the women struggled and shot just 30 percent from the field and 13 percent from the behind the arc.

Food services struggles to go local
St. Thomas received a ‘B’ for its food and recycling program from greenreportcard.org and it seems as if St. Thomas is falling behind, as neighboring schools Macalester College and the University of Minnesota both received an ‘A-‘.
The food and recycling category examines dining service programs by giving points based on the quantity and availability of organic, sustainably produced and locally grown food.
Star Tribune to cut 100 jobs
The Star Tribune is cutting about 100 jobs as Minnesota’s largest newspaper further trims costs after emerging from bankruptcy protection. AFROTC freshman class largest in recent years
The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program is seeing a dramatic increase in numbers over the last four years. Cadet Paul Kolars, AFROTC wing commander, said this year’s freshman class is the largest class size he has seen.
St. Thomas’ program isn’t alone as the other 273 ROTC programs across the country have also seen an increasing trend in numbers.
