Forum protestors strive for dialogue with university
Activists from the St. Thomas and St. Paul community gathered on the corner of Summit and Cretin avenues Saturday, April 17, to protest the Reclaiming the Culture of Marriage and Life Spring Forum that took place on campus.
Students plan protest of marriage forum
St. Thomas students are organizing a protest in response to the Reclaiming the Culture of Marriage and Life Spring Forum, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in Brady Educational Center.
Wednesday, the students presented the dean of students office with a notice of intent to demonstrate including an outline their plans to rally peacefully outside the forum. Some of the rally organizers then met with the dean’s office to discuss the event.
One year after Zamlen’s death, friends gather to remember
St. Thomas students and close friends shared prayers and stories of Daniel Zamlen during a memorial prayer service held in the St. John Vianney Seminary chapel Thursday evening. The service was held on what would have been Zamlen’s 20th birthday to commemorate the one-year anniversary of his death.
Underage drinking declines at colleges, St. Thomas included
Underage binge drinking has long been a source of major concern, but according to a new study done by Outside the Classroom, a company concerned with drinking issues on college campuses, underage binge drinking has been on the decline this year compared with years past.
Outside the Classroom founder and Chief Executive Brandon Busteed explained the extensive research that produced the study results.

With the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers rising, many St. Thomas students, faculty and staff are being affected.
Students wary about new health care bill
Some St. Thomas students are wary of the universal health care bill that President Barack Obama is expected to sign as early as Tuesday.
House Democrats sent the legislation to Obama after a 219-212 vote Sunday. All 178 Republican lawmakers opposed the bill, as did 34 Democrats.

Former Tommie, police chief Harrington eyeing New Orleans job
St. Thomas alumnus and former St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington is considering coming out of retirement to become police chief of a New Orleans task force, the Star Tribune reports.
