Social networking helping clubs, St. Thomas administration
The St. Thomas administration is finding ways to use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to its advantage. The New Media Initiatives Group (NMIG) was recently developed by the administration.
Last year’s Christmas concert to replay on TPT
More than 300 St. Thomas students are preparing for the annual Christmas concert that will take place Sunday, Dec. 6. While this year’s performance will not be taped, last year’s concert will be shown again Dec. 24 and 25 on Twin Cities Public Television.

Business challenge for 10K under way
St. Thomas students will present their unique business ideas Oct. 30 in the final competitions of the Fowler Business Concept Challenge.
The preliminary submission, presented Oct. 15, consisted of a brief description of the business concept (product or service), targeted a specific customer, provided solutions for solving the customer’s problem and demonstrated how the product or service will generate revenue and profit.
Sky’s the limit for classes, community events
The dedication of the new observatory atop the Anderson Parking Facility Tuesday initiated new advances in both the science and educational programs at St. Thomas.
“The primary mission of the St. Thomas physics department observatory is science education,” physics professor Gerry Ruch said. “We want to use this facility to reach as many people as we possibly can and get them excited about science and the natural world.”

Brazile stresses unity, fighting injustice
St. Thomas students, faculty and members of the surrounding community filled the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium Monday night to hear Donna Brazile speak about the importance of mutual respect and unity in today’s world.
About 600 people came to listen to the CNN political contributor, ABC News consultant and veteran Democratic political strategist. Brazile came to campus for the CommUNITY series, which offers events and discussions to promote creating “a socially and intellectually conscious community.”
Hundreds gather to celebrate end of Ramadan
More than 250 St. Thomas students and community members gathered Thursday evening in Murray-Herrick Campus Center to celebrate the end of the Ramadan fast.
“It’s been a great event. This year is the largest turnout they’ve ever had partially because they’ve decided to invite more people,” theology club president Bridget Kapler said. “They’ve started to ask all of the clubs [and] all of the religious organizations on campus [to attend].”
