The weight room and fitness facility is now open in the concessions area under the bleachers of O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
Cardio equipment and weight sets were moved from O’Shaughnessy Hall to the new site due to the construction of the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex. While under the bleachers, the makeshift weight room is still heated.
The weight room will remain in this location until the opening of the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex.
“All of the treadmills are in here, but we could only take four squat racks, the dumbbells and some of the benches,” said strength coach Ty Stenzel. “The weight room stuff is as much as I could get in and that’s what we have here.”
Although some of the equipment is missing, junior Brendan Lyon said it did not affect his workout routine.
“Back in the old weight room they had some pull-up bars and that’s pretty much the only thing I’m really missing,” Lyon said.
The weight room will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Stenzel said the southwest door on Cretin Avenue is the best way to access the new weight room location. He also said if students try to cut across the football field and the gate is locked, they will have to go back out and around the stadium’s fencing to enter the building.
“I know it’s not ideal for everybody, but it’ll work,” Stenzel said.
