GoinGlobal, an online service purchased by the university last year, offers St. Thomas students employment resources from more than 90 different places around the world.
St. Thomas’ Career Development Center offers a variety of tools to help students build a foundation for their future careers.
“It’s a job-search tool for the entire world,” career counselor Kristen Murphy said. “There are two areas that it can be very helpful to … international students and also our domestic students who have studied abroad or want to have an international experience.”
International students are able to search for jobs with the City Career Guide, a system that provides listings of jobs and internships in 47 U.S. cities, including the Twin Cities. The system also provides networking opportunities, verification of H1B visa compatibility and assistance with the hiring process.
“It caters a little bit to international students, but it really is marketed for everyone,” Murphy said.
Domestic students are also able to search for jobs they desire, but these are jobs from all around the world. By looking at the Country Career Guide, where there are a total of 40 different countries, students can do the same things that the U.S. city guides do, plus more.
“In addition to just finding jobs, it also can be a really good tool to learn about another country,” Murphy said. “Not only does it show jobs that are listed right now across the world, it would also tell you what a resume would look like in Morocco compared to a U.S. resume or a resume from Saudi Arabia or something like that.”
In order for students to use this database free of charge, they must go to the St. Thomas Career Development website, click on GoinGlobal and login with their St. Thomas login information. From there, the database is theirs to use.
“The more experience you have building your resume, the better off you’ll be, the more competitive you’ll be as an applicant,” Murphy said. “[GoinGlobal] really is for everybody.”
