The “Your Call” station in the View is one of the most popular food destinations for St. Thomas students, and Ken Grogg, the View’s executive chef, said one chef’s work ethic helps manage the high demand.
With 18 years of cooking experience, seven of those being at St. Thomas, “Your Call’s” Suteera Noothead knows how to offer speedy service.
“He’s very efficient; he’s very organized; he’s very clean, and he takes a lot of pride in what he does,” Grogg said. “So those qualities right there are top notch. If I had five more Suteera’s, then I think we’d be doing record numbers.”
Originally from Bangkok, Thailand, Noothead said his cooking experience prepared him for “Your Call’s” long lines.
“It’s a challenge. You know, it’s like chemistry. You can produce good products; you can do a lot of things,” Noothead said. “You know, it’s a lot to learn. The best I can do now is pretty good. I have a significant amount of background for this type of thing … so I kind of get everything up and running really fast.”
Sophomore Jake Chivers said he admires Noothead’s abilities and visits “Your Call” whenever he gets a chance.
“The guy’s incredible. He handles a huge quantity of students, so the fact that the line gets so long and he’s still able to get you through in a good amount of time … really impressive,” Chivers said.
Although Noothead’s cooking skills are top notch, he said he couldn’t run “Your Call” without his co-workers.
“We have excellent members,” Noothead said. “They work; they know what they’re doing. They’re really good. I am happy that I have these team members.”
