The Student Alumni Council kicked off spring Sunday with a community cleanup service event. Students from different clubs showed up to help and were organized into teams to clean the yards of houses in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Students from clubs such as the computer science club and Omicron Delta Kappa helped out with the service event.
“Our president told us about the event,” said senior Dustin Smith, an ODK member.
ODK is a service organization, and ODK member junior Bridgette Kelly said this event was a great opportunity to log service hours.
“We like to do campus service events such as this,” Kelly said. “We have to do a certain number of service hours per semester, so this will help our members get hours done.”
Raking was the main activity, and students went to houses on streets spanning Marshall to Grand avenues to help community members. Signs were placed at each house to let students know where to work.
SAC does many other community events, but this is its “service event for the year,” said senior Katie Ryan, SAC co-chair.
