The University of St. Thomas’s College of Arts and Sciences hosted the first ever CAS Block Party on Monday, May 6 from 3-6 p.m on the J.P. Monahan Plaza.
The CAS student ambassadors worked with the deans of the college, department heads and various clubs to plan this collaborative event.
“The goal of this event is to spread awareness of all the different programs and amazing things happening within the College of Arts and Sciences,” CAS student ambassador Abby Heller said.
Department and club showcase tables were set up in the plaza for students, faculty and staff to visit and gain a better understanding of the opportunities the CAS has to offer.
The block party offered ice cream and popcorn and a variety of activities such as yard games, poetry readings, student research posters and short films.
CAS student ambassadors walked around the block party to answer questions and engage with people, hoping to showcase the identity of the college.
“I think (CAS) integrates really well with the idea of a liberal arts campus, and it’s so collaborative,” CAS student ambassador Sophia Hausman said. “We bring together a lot of things that people wouldn’t consider useful majors, and we actually show what people can do with those.”
The block party made for a fun environment while reaching out to those unfamiliar with the College of Arts and Sciences. It was a step taken to portray the collaboration between various departments that unite under one identity.
“I hope students can see how big the College of Arts and Sciences is and see how many opportunities for research and learning there are that exist within the college,” Heller said.
