COVID-19 UPDATE: 16 new positive cases at St. Thomas

Sixteen positive COVID-19 cases were reported by St. Thomas’ Center for Well-Being during the week ending Feb. 18.

Fourteen cases came from the St. Paul campus and two came from the Minneapolis campus; nine were students and seven were employees.

As of Feb. 18, the Center for Well-Being reported a 92% university-wide vaccination rate with a 95.7% rate among employees and a 91% rate among students.

As of Feb. 17, masks will no longer be required while actively exercising inside St. Thomas’ weight and cardio rooms, Athletic Events and Operations Assistant Director Rachel Simons announced via email.

The COVID-19 dashboard reports that there is no evidence of classroom or lab transmission. The university reminded students that face coverings are required indoors and also encouraged booster vaccinations.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported on Feb. 21 that 74.3% of Minnesotans 5 years and older have at least one vaccine dose and 70% have completed the vaccine series; 78% of Minnesotans 18 and older have completed the vaccine series.

St. Thomas releases COVID-19 data every Monday on the COVID-19 dashboard, which also offers information about reporting positive cases and getting vaccinated.
