The University of St. Thomas’ St. Paul campus was unintentionally included in a shelter-in-place alert Tuesday morning while Ramsey County authorities searched for a homicide suspect in Roseville, who was later apprehended.
“It’s an incident that’s happening in Roseville, so it doesn’t affect anybody in St. Paul. We’re trying to correct it as quick as we can,” said Sgt. Mike Ernster, public information officer, St. Paul Police Department.
At around 11:10 a.m., St. Thomas Public Safety wrote in an email, “Ramsey County sent alert unintentionally. There is no immediate risk to either of the St. Thomas campuses.”
Ramsey County confirmed in a tweet that the alert was sent to a larger geographic area than intended.
Roseville tweeted at 11:26 a.m. that the suspect was in custody, which was confirmed by a tweet from Ramsey County.
St. Paul Public Schools stated in an email that every school went into a half-hour lockout at 10:45 a.m., after the emergency alert was issued.
