Five clubs funded, new club approved in Feb. 21 USG meeting

Five clubs were funded, one new club was approved and new business was discussed at the Feb. 21 Undergraduate Student Government general council meeting.

The executive board of Book Club presented their case to earn funding and become an official club on campus. The club has technically existed for two years but has not received funding from the university because it was not an official club. The club was approved, with Freshman Class President Noah Katula abstaining.

For internal funding requests, USG finance committee approved $45,920 for 19 clubs. In campus wide funding requests, USG approved $1,200 for Students for Justice and Peace. In conference and competition funding requests, USG approved $2,000 for HUSA, $400 for Volleyball Club, $206.25 for Mock Trial and $1,121.25 for TEACH.

Sophomore Class Senator Caroline Ludwig earned the Council Member Spotlight for her work with the Sustainability Coalition. The council discussed upcoming sustainability guest speaker Amir Nadav and other guests they hope to invite this semester.

USG is currently working on choosing a vendor for online diversity and inclusion training. This training will be for all undergraduate students and is part of the university’s Action Plan to Combat Racism.
