Former St. Thomas guard Andrew Rohde announced his decision to play at the University of Virginia Tuesday.

Rohde, who played his first year at St. Thomas, averaged 17.5 points and led the Tommies in assists per game. He received Freshman of the Year and All Summit League honors during his tenure with the Tommies.

Rohde announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on March 20 via his personal Twitter. Experts and fans alike assumed that the Wisconsin native would be headed to his home state Wisconsin Badgers. As time passed it became clear that the Cavaliers were one of his top choices.

Coach Tony Bennett, a Wisconsin native himself, led Virginia to a national championship in 2019 but has had limited postseason success since. Virginia’s season ended with a 68-67 upset loss to No. 13 Furman.

Rohde, who received no Power 6 offers coming out of high school, will now be playing in front of over 14,000 fans in Charlottesville Arena.
