Witches, gorillas, Star Wars clone troopers and other characters could all be found around St. Thomas on Halloween.

Students took advantage of the nice weather and showed off their costumes. Some professors decided to use an extra incentive for festive students in class.

“We got extra credit in geology class for coming in costume, so I just figured I’d borrow my brother’s gorilla suit,” junior Paul Piche said.

It was not just students who got into the Halloween spirit. Gayle Lamb, operations manager of Dining Services, was ready to join the festivities with a grasshopper hat.

“My son bought (the hat) in Germany on his way home from a study abroad,” Lamb said. “I just took the hat and then I found materials and made the rest of the outfit to go with.”

Students sported costumes varying from planned masterpieces to last minute ensembles thrown together from their closets.

Freshman Zach Block said he brought out his clone trooper mask for a second time.

“I saw the mask, so I got it,” Block said. “It was originally for my Halloween lacrosse practice but then I just kinda made it work for today.”

Freshman David Stevens made a trip to Ragstock and came up with a Goldmember-themed outfit.

“This is what I am going to be this upcoming weekend, it’s like a little preview,” Stevens said.

Although there were some festive spirits around campus, Stevens said he wished he would’ve seen a bigger turnout.

“I’m a little disappointed, I’m sticking out like a sore thumb today,” Stevens said.
