MINNEAPOLIS— Up to a foot of snow is expected to fall in southeastern Minnesota as a slow-moving storm overstayed its welcome for winter-weary residents.
Snowfall Tuesday canceled classes for dozens of schools including Rochester, Winona, Stillwater and Shakopee.
The National Weather Service predicted a two-day snow total of 7 to 10 inches in the Twin Cities area and 8 to 12 for much of southeastern Minnesota. Forecasters expected the snow to taper off by Tuesday afternoon.
Lakeville in Dakota County had 7 inches of new snow by Tuesday morning with nearly 5 inches at Red Wing.
The storm caused Delta Air Lines to waive fees for one-time changes in travel plans for passengers using the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport and others in the Upper Midwest Monday and Tuesday.
