In Depth – Neighborhood Tension

After an eventful Tommie-Johnnie weekend, TommieMedia takes an in-depth look at neighborhood tension with St. Thomas neighbor Scott Banas, Vice President of Neighborhood Relations Doug Hennes and Undergraduate Student Government Vice President of Public Relations Jared Scharpen.

In Depth is a new TommieMedia segment, which will examine trending topic on campus. Have an idea for a segment topic? Tweet your ideas to @TommieMedia or send an email at tommiemedia@stthomas.edu.

  1. Living near a College/University consists of mutual service. Several neighbors protested St. Thomas getting tennis courts behind BEC. Tension over tennis courts is nonsense. This would bring one to think that some neighbors want never-ending conflict with St. Thomas. Why is St Thomas the only MIAC ( only a few in the USA) without outdoor tennis courts? Tension over tennis courts……..really? Our neighbors reasonable complaints get lost when they fight St Thomas at every turn,

  2. Couldn’t agree more Scott, a MAJOR setback for the neighborhood.  I would say we’re still feeling the repercussions.  No image captured the devastation of the St. Paul community better than the one shown at 2:48 in the video.  Those two pieces of paper evidenced a truly riotous event… meddling kids!

  3. Doug, Let me quote Oliver Wendall Holmes on apology, “A very desperate habit-one that is rarely cured…only egotism wrong side out. Nine times out of ten, the first thing a man’s companion knows of his shortcomings is from his apology”. Why throw UST resources at a neighborhood system that thinks St Thomas is as nasty as its neighborhood vocal leaders, and hates St Thomas for it. Please if you see bottles, paper and garbage ….just throw it in the trash. Don’t whine about it, just clean it up. There is virtue in picking up for others and living in harmony. St. John’s/St.Thomas Football is once every two years in St. Paul. And Doug, lets push for Tennis Courts on campus and render mutual service to studends of virtue and St. Thomas.
