Most teams would show a little enthusiasm about earning a split, but the St. Thomas hockey team isn’t showing any after splitting with St. John’s this weekend.

“Yeah, we’re definitely disappointed. We came out and won the first game and we should have won tonight,” senior Andy Kappers said. “We didn’t play to our ability, but a loss is tough. We just have to learn from it.”

The Tommies (5-3 overall, 3-1 in the MIAC) earned a split against the Johnnies (2-6 overall, 2-2 in the MIAC) after winning the first game in Collegeville 4-1 and losing the second 2-1 in Mendota Heights.

“[Friday] night was luck,” coach Jeff Boeser said. “We got out-worked [Friday] night and we got lucky. Tonight, we just flat out got out-worked. St. John’s wanted it more.”

The Tommies were led by Riley Horgen with two goals in Friday night’s win. Freshman goalie Geoff Sadjadi had 48 saves between the two games and gave up three goals.

“It’s good, but you know it could be better,” Sadjadi said. “Obviously two goals wasn’t good enough tonight. So, [we] have to be better next time.”
