The men’s lacrosse team swept the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League’s Division II tournament this weekend, defeating St. John’s 10-6 in the championship Sunday afternoon.
“Beating the Johnnies is never an easy task,” junior Joe McCullagh said. “Both teams know each other so well that it really comes down to who wants it in the end.”
St. Thomas beat MSU-Moorhead 20-1 at McMurray Fields in St. Paul Saturday to advance to the championship. Freshman Ryan Doyle led the Tommies with four goals, and junior Cooper Mazon and senior Ryan Pietsch each tacked on three goals.
St. Thomas remains undefeated this season, improving to 15-0 overall and 10-0 in division play. The Tommies travel May 11 to Denver for the national tournament.
“We are going to Denver next week holding the mindset that we are there to defend our national championship,” McCullagh said.
