The Murray-Herrick Campus Center, which has been undergoing remodeling for several months, will open this fall as a one-stop location for a range of student services.
Consolidating offices from four different locations on campus, the new MHC will include the Card Office, Registrar’s Office, Business Office, Academic Counseling and Enhancement Services.
“It’ll be good for students,” Associate Vice President for Facilities Gerald Anderley said. “They won’t have to go to 15 different places. They can go to one place and take care of all their business.”
The Bookstore, Post Office and Blue Lagoon will remain in their current locations.
“I think (the Blue Lagoon) will be well-used because of the classrooms on second floor,” Anderley said.
Eleven smart-equipped classrooms, which include new projectors, larger desks equipped to handle laptops and smart boards have been added to the second floor. Two of the new classrooms will be able to hold 80 students, another 65, and the remaining eight will each be able to host about 40 to 45 students. Anderley said these classrooms will mainly be used for larger general education courses, including philosophy, geography and chemistry.
“It added quite a few classrooms to our inventory,” Anderley said.
Anderley said there are currently no plans to add any food services.
Junior Luis Ortega thinks that having food services centralized in the Anderson Student Center is a good idea, but a compromise wouldn’t hurt.
“I think if they put in a few coffee machines and a few vending machines (in MHC), we would be good,” Ortega said.
The final phase of construction will take place next summer. The Admissions Office will be relocated to second floor, and the ROTC offices will be put where the C-Store and the Grill were once located.
Senior Matt Schaak, who works in the Bookstore, said the ongoing construction has resulted in a noisy work environment and he looks forward to the final product.

“the ROTC offices will be put where the C-Store and the Grill were once located” – I think it will be the C-Store and Scooters, not the Grill… The Grill is on the first floor and the C-store is in the basement; it wouldn’t be very convenient.
