New president sworn in, budgets approved at USG meeting

The St. Thomas Undergraduate Student Government approved funding for four clubs and swore in its new president at its May 1 general council meeting.

Junior Bisrat Bayou was sworn in as the new student body president, and some members of next year’s general council were sworn in as a group.

In internal club funding requests, USG approved $2,573 for the Pre-Law Society, $750 for the Accounting Club and $2,710 for Festival Choir.

In campus-wide club funding requests, USG approved $2,500 for the Summit Singers spring concert.

USG also approved two additional proposals to spend more of its budget surplus. $100,000 was allocated for the establishment of a Center for Student Achievement and $94,754 was allocated to hire three new part-time Counseling and Psychological Services counselors to assist during peak need times and bump one already hired part-time counselor to full-time.
