St. Thomas President Julie Sullivan announced that the university is planning to hold an in-person graduation ceremony for the class of 2021 with each member allowed two guests.

The university will hold three undergraduate ceremonies throughout the day on May 22, split into groups of 350 students. The Dougherty Family College will hold their ceremony on May 23 and will also be split into groups.

During Derek Chauvin’s murder trial Tuesday, Minneapolis police officers continued their testimony as Lieutenant Johnny Mercil told the courtroom that Derek Chavin did not do what he trained to do by placing his knee on George Floyd’s neck last May.

Mercil explained that officers are taught to stay away from the neck when possible.

The European Medicines Agency says it has found a possible link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and a rare clotting disorder, but the agency said adults should continue to receive the vaccine because the benefits still outweigh the risks.

The EU’s drug regulator also said most of the reported cases have come from women under 60 within two weeks of vaccination but no specific risk factors have been identified.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas’ rising case count leveled out at 17 last week for the second straight week as employee positive tests rose from zero to five and positive student tests dropped from 17 to 12 between the weeks of March 20 and March 27.
