Kentucky Governor Andrew Beshear says his state will rebuild and move forward after a tornado left dozens dead in six states over the weekend.

Kentucky was the worst-hit state by far in an unusual mid-December swarm of twisters across the Midwest and the South. The tornadoes leveled entire communities and left at least 14 others dead in four states.

8 people have been pronounced dead after a candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky fell from the tornado. On Sunday afternoon, Governor Beshear estimated that 50 people have died throughout the state.

The trial of a Minnesota police officer charged in the shooting death of Daunte Wright opened its second week of testimonies this morning with an assistant medical examiner walking jurors through Wright’s autopsy.

Wright was killed on April 11 after being pulled over in Brooklyn Center for having expired license plate tags and an air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror. The officer who shot him, Kim Potter, has been charged with manslaughter.

Minnesota’s second confirmed omicron COVID case has been reported at Minnesota State University. University President Edward Inch sent a letter to faculty, staff and students telling them that the Minnesota Department of Health had notified the school officials that the omicron variant was confirmed in a vaccinated person at the university.

President Inch said “The individual is doing fine and is following appropriate isolation protocols.”
