A winter storm brought snow and ice blankets across the southern plains, prompting a power emergency in Texas. This comes a day after the conditions canceled flights and impacted traffic across large portions of the U.S.

Rotating power outages were initiated by the electric reliability council of Texas this morning. During this routine, 2.3 million Texans went without power for short periods of time as temperatures fell into the teens near Dallas and Houston.

Former President Donald Trump was acquitted Saturday at his second impeachment trial. This means Trump won’t be charged and was ruled not guilty.

Investigations into the riot were already planned and with senate hearings scheduled for later this month. House speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked retired army general, Russel Honorer, to lead an immediate review of the capitol’s security process.

The senate’s 57-to-43 majority verdict fell 10 votes short of the 2/3 needed to convict Trump.

Cheryl Pooler, a 2019 St. Thomas doctorate of social work graduate, has been granted $2.3 million for her nonprofit organization, The Cove, which helps homeless teens in Waco, Texas.

Pooler is a lecturer at Baylor University and the cofounder of The Cove, which stands for care, opportunity, value, and empowerment. Pooler says The Cove works tirelessly to help teenagers get off the streets by providing a safe space to go Monday through Friday.

The program offers mental health professionals, pet therapy, family reunification, and programs to homeless teens. Pooler says the grant money will go towards food, therapy, and creating housing solutions for the future.
