President Joe Biden has decided to ban Russian oil imports… toughening the toll on Russia’s economy in retaliation for its invasion of Ukraine, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The White House said Biden would announce on Tuesday “actions to continue to hold Russia accountable for its unprovoked and unjustified war on Ukraine.” Biden said the U.S. was acting in close consultation with European allies, who are more dependent on Russian energy supplies and who he acknowledged may not be able to join in immediately.
Teachers in the Minneapolis school district walked off the job on Tuesday in a dispute over wages, class sizes, and mental health support for students coping with two years of the coronavirus pandemic.
The strike paused classes temporarily for about 29,000 students in one of Minnesota’s largest school districts. Union members said they could not reach an agreement on wages, especially a “living wage” for education support professionals, as well as caps on class sizes and more mental health services for students.
The school district called the news disappointing but pledged to keep negotiating. Callahan said the union was also willing to resume bargaining, but no talks were scheduled.
Three positive covid-19 cases were reported by the center for well-being during the week ending in March, it was the first full week since the university lifted its face-covering requirement in most indoor spaces on February 26. Two of the cases came from the St. Paul campus with one positive case coming from the Minneapolis campus. All three of the cases were students.
