A Minnesota resident in their 50s is the state’s second confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus, health officials said Sunday.
The Minnesota Department of Health said in a statement that the case involves a Carver County resident who was likely exposed to the coronavirus while traveling in Europe in late February.
The patient developed symptoms on March 2, and sought health care Saturday. Samples were collected from the person and sent to the MDH Public Health Laboratory for testing. The test was found positive on Sunday.
The patient is in isolation at home and is recovering.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden. Booker announced on Twitter early Monday that Biden will “restore honor to the Oval Office and tackle our most pressing challenges.”
Booker ended his own presidential bid in January, pledging to do “everything in my power to elect the eventual Democratic nominee for president.”
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, St. Thomas English professor Todd Lawrence had a stroke. He lost the ability to read and has trouble with word recall. Regardless, he returned to teach his African American literature class the following Friday, missing only two class periods.
At first, Lawrence thought that he wouldn’t be able to return to work. With the support of his department chair and other professors, he has been able to adjust his classroom to continue teaching. His students have also helped him find different ways to teach and communicate online without being able to read.
“They were immediately supportive and had ideas about technology that we could use in the classroom,” Lawrence said.
