Lakeville Minnesota high school teachers, parents and community members rallied outside the district before a school board meeting Tuesday.
The teachers’ union filed an intent to strike if no agreement was reached. The issue is salaries. The union’s lead negotiator says the teachers already make $10,000-$15,000 a year less than surrounding districts. No date has been set for a strike vote.
In Florida, an abortion ban after six weeks of pregnancy took place today. Governor Ron Desantis of Florida gathered anti-abortion activists in his capitol office for an unusual bill signing held behind closed doors.
This law will affect women’s access to the procedure in Florida and women from surrounding states with more strict bans. The biggest political question in Florida right now is if the abortion law will swing the election.
The recent developments in the united methodist church mark a significant shift in its stance on LGBTQ inclusion. a decision to repeal the ban on LGBTQ clergy, passed by an overwhelming majority at the general conference.
This means LGBTQ individuals can now be considered for leadership roles, but it is up to each church to decide.
