St. Thomas Athletics Director Phil Esten said Thursday at the Undergraduate Student Government general council meeting that the NCAA agrees that St. Thomas “look(s) like we could be and operate like a Division I institution” and the university will know more about its fate after the NCAA convention in January.

The NCAA is considering a number of legislative models that would address St. Thomas’s unique situation of being invited to the Division I Summit League last October, a jump from the Division III MIAC, from which St. Thomas was involuntarily removed from last May.

Forecasters say a winter snowstorm could muddle Thanksgiving travel plans in southern Minnesota. Up to 6 inches of snow is expected to begin falling Tuesday afternoon, followed by strong winds on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning for southern Minnesota.

Mississippi residents no longer have to leave the state to buy lottery tickets anymore. At 5 a.m. Monday, tickets officially went on sale for the first time in decades.

Mississippi was one of only six states without a lottery, with strong opposition from politically powerful churches and people driving to neighboring states to buy tickets.
