Record high temperatures and humidity brought about extreme and dangerous conditions for runners in two major Twin Cities races on Sunday, causing both to be canceled. The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon had an expected attendance of 8,000 runners when the organizers, Twin Cities in Motion canceled the race along with a separate 10-mile race drawing in 12,000 runners. Some runners had lined up for the race to start early Sunday told the Minneapolis Star Tribune they planned to run anyway. 

Amid a possible shutdown of the federal government. Biden signed a temporary funding bill to keep agencies open. The bill was signed before the Sunday deadline and funds the government until November 17. The package increases federal disaster assistance by $16 billion, meeting Biden’s full request but dropping aid to Ukraine. 

The loss of Ukraine aid was devastating for lawmakers of both parties vowing to support President Zelenskyy after his recent Washington visit. The European Union urges the United States to reconsider this decision. 

The EU’s top diplomat Spaniard Joseph Burrell said European officials were surprised by the Alaska decision and punished the 27 nations. Would continue helping the invading country to feed Russia or else stated, “We are facing an existential threat. Ukrainians are fighting with all their couraging capacities. And if you want them to be successful, then you have to provide them with better arms and quicker”.
