Alex Goering, communication and journalism major, 2.83 GPA

Goering is from St. Paul, Minn. As a Tommie, he has participated in the Liturgical Choir, St. Thomas’ Rugby club, VISION and worked as both a reporter and a columnist for TommieMedia.

Goering said his St. Thomas experience has taught him how to balance challenges. Goering also said he enjoys comparing the person he is today to the student he was when he moved in as a freshman, and reflecting on his memories with the rugby team.

The summer before his sophomore year, Goering’s sister was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer. He said other students might not realize this has been one of his motivations for supporting Children’s Cancer Research Fund and other fundraising organizations.

After Goering graduates, he will continue his education at the St. Thomas School of Law.
