St. Thomas men’s soccer battled in the 30 degree snowy weather as they defeated Carleton 1-0 on South Field Saturday.
This win extends the Tommie’s win streak to five games, advancing them to the top of the MIAC.
“Our defense has been really solid,” junior defender Halvor Houg said. “We are staying connected and are barely letting in any goals.”
St. Thomas has only allowed three goals in their last five games contributing to the team’s win streak.
Tommie defender and first-year Jack Gleckler drew a foul in the box giving the Tommies a penalty shot in the 32nd minute.
Houg buried the penalty shot to give the Tommies a 1-0 lead and from there, they never looked back.
“We showed a lot about what we worked on in training during the first half,” coach Jon Lowery said. “But the second half came down to, can you win a close game? The guys have come a long way because a month ago I don’t think that game finishes the way it did.”
Toward the end of the game Carleton had a few scoring opportunities, including a corner kick header that deflected off the post.
“There’s nothing that’s gonna stop us from pursuing a MIAC championship,” said Lowery when asked about the frigid weather conditions.
St. Thomas plays at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Concordia-Moorhead.
