Junior guard Macy Hatlestad scored 14 points, leading the Tommies to a 79-53 win against Concordia-Moorhead Saturday at Schoenecker Arena.
Sophomore point guard Allie Spaulding and sophomore guard Amber Darge also led the Tommies (17-4, 13-3 MIAC) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
“It was a good team win,” Spaulding said. “We had five people over 12 points and 24 assists, which we couldn’t have done without each other.”
Hatlestad praised the team for playing well together.
“It’s not ‘I’m going to take the ball and do my thing,’ I put my work in shooting, getting my shot down and then I got the easy part of just receiving the good passes,” Hatlestad said.
St. Thomas led the entire game, leading by up to 34 points by the fourth quarter.
“Concordia is a good team. They can shoot the ball well,” coach Ruth Sinn said. “I thought our post players and our coverage did a nice job defensively.”
Concordia (8-13, 6-10 MIAC) first-year guard Emily Beseman dominated with 21 points scored for the Cobbers. Concordia sophomore forward Mary Sem also led with 12 points.
The Tommies play Bethel at home Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Bethel took its first loss of the season at Saint Mary’s 77-69 Saturday, breaking a 20-game winning streak. Sinn sees playing Bethel, currently the top team in the MIAC, as an opportunity “to work on our ball control and work on handling pressure.”
“We have to make sure we’re focused on the things that we can do and we can control,” Sinn said.
