Students in PULSE, a performing arts club on campus, gave St. Thomas a preview Saturday night to encourage new and returning students to join. The performers showed off old favorites and gave a sneak peek of one of their new routines.

“The ‘We Are PULSE’ show is really just kind of to get out the information, who we are, give a few examples of really good dances from previous years and just try to get freshmen and anyone who’s interested really involved,” PULSE President Jen Gish said.

Previously, the preview show took place the first weekend after move-in, but last year’s low attendance encouraged PULSE to push the performance to a later date. This year, about 70 students attended. Gish said PULSE wants to recruit students like these in time for their semi-annual fall performance.

Sophomore Brenna Carberry said the enthusiasm of both the performers and the crowd would make her want to join PULSE, if she had the time.

“Everybody seemed to be, like, having a great time, and everyone was cheering for each other,” Carberry said. “That sounded fun.”

For sophomore Michelle Miller, who will perform with PULSE for the first time this semester, the passion and energy of the student performers drew her into the club.

“It kind of just radiates into the audience,” Miller said. “I feel like that’s what gets people into PULSE because they see what an awesome fun time everyone who’s involved in PULSE has.”
