ST. PAUL, Minn. —St. Paul police have released the name of a man shot dead by police after he allegedly robbed a grocery store.
He was identified Tuesday as 20-year-old Melvin Duane Fletcher Jr. of Brooklyn Park.
Police were called to the robbery at Kowalski’s Markets just after 8:30 a.m. Monday. As officers arrived they learned the suspect — later identified as Fletcher — had run out of the store through a rear entrance. Officers saw the suspect and ran after him.
At least one of the officers shot Fletcher. Paramedics took the suspect to Regions Hospital, where he died.
