Since St. Thomas dining services required all campus clubs and organizations to purchase food from on-campus vendors starting this fall, School of Law activities have suffered, said Jonathan Wise, School of Law Student Government representative, to the Undergraduate Student Government at its meeting Sunday night.

He said he would like to see USG and the School of Law Student Government collaborate to encourage dining services to make exceptions to the policy to save the graduate clubs’ money.

“I want us to get them to find ways to make exceptions, but not necessarily get rid of it,” Wise said. “We should get the student voice heard at all levels, because it affects the graduate students, too.”

He added, “Because of the policy we have fewer activities held and student groups deteriorating. We are just actively trying to get a change.”

USG spring elections

Students can vote on 15 positions for next year’s council beginning at 9 a.m. April 13 and continuing until 9 p.m. April 15. Voting will be conducted online from the USG website and will require students to enter their St. Thomas username and password.

Club allocations

USG approved a budget for Bike Enthusiasts at St. Thomas of $1,800 for races in the Twin Cities, Iowa and Wisconsin.

The Music and Entertainment Industry Association was allocated $750 for a spring concert, including expenses for food, the band and public safety fees. Catholic Discovery Groups was allocated $5,210 for a retreat this spring.
