Super hungry students may need to check out Scooter’s new menu option.
Scooter’s is hoping to give students more bang for their buck with its new Super Slice, which replaced the 8-inch personal pizza at the beginning of the spring semester.
The Super Slice was created to reduce wait time, Scooter’s day-time manager Mona White said. She also said the campus restaurant was receiving complaints about the time it took to cook the food.
“We try to listen to the student body. It was said that we weren’t getting food out fast enough, so we tried to remedy that with Super Slice,” White said, “It basically only takes five minutes to get your Super Slice, as compared to approximately 10 minutes to get the personal pizza.”
Scooter’s student employee Robert Polacek said the Super Slice takes less time to serve because it’s pre-made.
“What they are are 20-inch pizzas cut into fours,” Polacek said. “When an order comes through we have all the various … specialties that you’ve come to love and enjoy here at Scooter’s.”
Not only is the new pizza option larger than its predecessor, but in some cases it’s cheaper. The cheese, pepperoni and sausage versions cost $1 less.
With the variety of toppings the Super Slice offers, students have expressed interest in the new addition to the menu. Along with the variety of toppings students can choose to create their own pizza, Scooter’s offers all of its speciality pizzas as a Super Slice as well.
Freshman Colin McGlennen said he would take advantage of the many options and create his own pizza.
“I really like meat pizzas so I’d put a ton of meat on my pizza,” McGlennen said.
Sophomore Yvonne Gerten said she would also enjoy a wide variety of meat on her pizza.
“I would do a meat lover pizza maybe, like pepperoni, sausage, and then like mushroom or something,” Gerten said.
Freshman Justin Vang said he would rather have vegetables than meat any day of the week.
“I would like to have like green peppers, mushrooms,” Vang said. “I’m kind of more of a veggie guy.”
Junior Andrea Chvatal said she misses the 8-inch personal pizza.
“I liked the personal pizza size because it was the perfect size,” Chvatal said.
White claims the Super Slice is larger than the personal pizza, and is a better value.
“You’re getting a larger piece of dough with more expensive cheese and more expensive toppings,” White said. “We’re definitely not benefiting ourselves at all. We’re literally trying to make it so that our food comes as fast and efficiently as it can.”
Speed is especially important during Scooter’s’ busiest times.
“It helps speed up the process during lunch and dinner rushes,” White said. “Wherever we can try to make things faster or better, that’s what we’re trying to do. That’s why the Super Slice was invented.”
Senior Nina Ricceri said she thinks the Super Slice will be a popular menu item for Scooter’s.
“Obviously, pizza is a college student staple; that’s gonna be pretty popular,” Ricceri said.
