The St. Thomas baseball team claimed its first Summit League series win Sunday in an 8-6 win over Northern Colorado State Sunday at Koch Diamond.
The Tommies’ (10-22, 4-8 Summit League) offense remained hot, being led by senior center fielder Avery Lehman, who went 2-4 with two RBIs. First-year pitcher Carl Cano closed the door on the Bears (10-28, 6-9), earning his first win.
Despite loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out and trailing by two runs, the University of St. Thomas softball team fell 5-3 to University of North Dakota Sunday at South Field.
The Tommies (12-29, 7-8 Summit League) recognized senior day after the game, celebrating the first graduating class after the transition to Division I. The roster consists of four seniors: third baseman Sarah Hudson, second baseman Nicole Pieper, and pitchers Kendall Hopkins and Megan Baniecke.
Dmitry Kulikov scored with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 5-4 victory over the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.
Joel Eriksson Ek had two power-play goals and an assist, Nick Bjugstad and Kevin Fiala also scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 21 saves for Minnesota. The Wild have won five straight as they battle with the St. Louis Blues for second place in the Central Division and home ice for the teams’ first-round playoff series.
