St. Thomas men’s and women’s basketball teams both defeated Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The women’s team dominated the Cobbers in the fourth quarter with a 34-point lead.
Sophomore point guard Allie Spaulding and sophomore guard Amber Darge also led the Tommies (17-4, 13-3 MIAC) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
“It was a good team win,” Spaulding said. “We had five people over 12 points and 24 assists, which we couldn’t have done without each other.”
The men’s team beat the Cobbers 97-58 and continued their eight game winning streak.
Forward Elijah Hannah scored 18 points for the Tommies, who remain second in the MIAC behind St. John’s.
“I think our ability to change the tempo and try to create a pace that can be challenging for teams is one of our strengths,” Coach John Tauer said. “Our guys certainly like playing fast. It’s always a balance of how fast you can play while not compromising efficiency.”
This week, both teams play Bethel Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The 2020 swim and dive MIAC championships begin Wednesday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The championship will be four days long with tickets sold for morning and evening sessions.
