Sophomore Peyton Ekman was named MIAC Diver of the Year after sweeping both events and helping Tommie women’s swim and dive finish second to St. Catherine by a tight 36-point margin at the MIAC Championships.
The four-day meet concluded Saturday night at the University of Minnesota’s Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
St. Catherine scored 700.5 points to win the school’s first league swim and dive team title.
St. Kates outscored the Tommies (664) and Gustavus (626.5) in the top three of the 11-team competition.
The Purple also placed second on the men’s side. Gustavus repeated as men’s champion with 946 points, with St. Thomas (739), St. John’s (493) and Carleton (434) placing respectively second, third and fourth in the team race.
St. Thomas’ men’s and women’s teams have placed either first or second at the conference meet in each of the last eight seasons.
First-year forward Jack Vincent scored two goals in the first period, leading St. Thomas men’s hockey to a 8-2 win against Hamline Friday at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
Vincent is now tied with sophomore forward Luke Radetic and first-year forward Justin Kelley with the second most goals this season for the team. Each of them have six goals apiece.
Junior forward Estee Frantz led with two goals, but it was not enough for St. Thomas (12-7-4, 11-4-1 MIAC) as the women’s hockey team fell 5-4 to Hamline University at Saint Thomas Ice Arena Saturday.
Hamline (16-3-4, 11-1-3 MIAC) now sits four points ahead of St. Thomas in the MIAC standings with two regular season games remaining.
