A strong shooting performance propelled St. Thomas men’s basketball to an 88-61 victory over the Omaha Mavericks on Thursday evening. The Tommies move to 18-12 on the season and 8-7 in conference play with one game remaining in the 2023-2024 basketball season.
Graduate students Raheem Anthony and Parker Bjorklund led the scoring efforts for the Tommies with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Bjorklund also recorded eight rebounds, and two assists, and went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
It was nearly the comeback of the season for the University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team. Down 16 after the first half, the Tommies put together a furious third-quarter rally, closing the gap to nine with 10 minutes left in regulation. Sadly for St. Thomas, the team could not complete the comeback, falling to the University of Nebraska-Omaha by a final score of 79-62.
Langbehn continued to be a dominant force in the paint for St. Thomas, as she scored 16 points before the five-minute mark of the third. She provided the spark the Tommies offense needed.
Anthony Edwards scored 17 of his 34 points in the third quarter, helping the Minnesota Timberwolves move into sole possession of first place in the Western Conference with a 110-101 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
Naz Reid provided a spark off the Minnesota bench with 19 points, and Karl-Anthony Towns had 13 points and 11 rebounds in his return after missing Tuesday’s win over San Antonio for personal reasons.
