It was a busy weekend in St Thomas athletics with all four teams in action going undefeated in eight different contests.
The baseball team faced Northwestern-St. Paul in a road matchup on Saturday. Kyle Halverson’s two-run homerun in extra innings sealed a 2-0 win in game one. In game two, Sam Kulesa and Jake Porter had two RBIs a piece to top the Eagles 4-2 in the second game. First-year pitcher Jack Blesch started game two and allowed two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
The women’s softball team swept the University of Wisconsin Stout Blue Devils 12-4 and 8-0 on Saturday.
The Tommies reached the eight run rule in each game as they racked up 20 hits on the day. Senior outfielder Sam Birling and Junior first baseman Sarah Hudson both had three hits each on the day.
Junior pitcher Kendall Hopkins threw her first collegiate full-game shutout in game two, allowing only two hits by the Blue Devils.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams each defeated Concordia-Moorhead 9-0 on Saturday in away matchups.
On Sunday, the women faced St Mary’s University at home and defeated them 8-1.
The men faced St. Mary’s on the road and also defeated the Cardinals 8-1.
The Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Phoenix Suns 113-101 on Friday, March 19.
Karl-Anthony Towns led the Timberwolves with 24 points. Ricky Rubio had 21 points and 10 assists for Minnesota, which fell to 10-32 on the season.
Minnesota didn’t get any closer after the Suns opened the fourth period with an 11-3 surge to put the game away. Suns player Mikal Bridges had five points in that spurt.
The Timberwolves return to Minnesota Monday to face Oklahoma City at home.
