St. Thomas crushing Trinity International at half

Tommie wide receiver Vinny Pallini scored on the first play of the season, returning a kickoff the length of the field as No. 3 St. Thomas led Trinity International 48-7 at halftime Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Stadium.

Quarterback Jacques Perra went 11-for-12 with 124 yards two touchdown passes two different receivers. Late in the second quarter, with the score already 48-7, the Tommies put in backup quarterback Ronnie Jones.

Running back Josh Parks ran the ball 11 times for 130 yards and had the longest Tommie run of the game, with a 46-yard gain. He later scored a touchdown on the same series. Tom Loeffler ran the ball nine times for 41 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tommies defense was stingy, holding Trinity (1-0) to just one touchdown on a 75-yard pass from quarterback Ryan Heath to receiver Javiel Jones.

Trinity (Ill.), is an NAIA-affiliated team and is the first non-NCAA Division III team the Tommies have played since 1997.
